Join us in welcoming Officer's Carolyn Renaud and Aaron Bunch of the Aurora Police Department for "Recognizing the Signs of Violent Extremism"!
"Violent Extremism" refers to violence committed in the name of ideology to further a political agenda. The Aurora Police Department encountered 3 high school female students, became radicalized via the internet. This investigation prompted the Department of Homeland Security to partner with the School Resource Officers of Aurora Police Department. The end result was the creation of this presentation and ultimately the inception of the Aurora Police International Teen Academy.
"Countering Violent Extremist Terrorism" will inform students of various extremist groups, recognize the signs of radicalization, and provide educational support for our police, schools, and community.
Officer Carolyn Renaud -
School Resource Officer with Aurora (CO) Police Department
Officer Renaud is a Colorado native who attended Northern Colorado University. Officer Renaud has been a member of the Aurora Police Department for 23 years. She has been assigned to the Vice and Narcotics unit, Recruiting and Background Investigations unit and most recently SRO. Officer "CJ", as she is affectionately referred to recently, completed a Master's in Education which makes the SRO position the perfect assignment.
Officer Aaron Bunch -
Officer Bunch brings to the table a certain set of skills. Officer "Jake" Bunch has military experience beyond his years. He is a 20 year veteran of the US Army, with deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq. Officer Bunch has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Homeland Security. He is the coordinator of the Teen Citizen's Police Academy. Officer Bunch is by far one fo the most intelligent police officers employed by the Aurora Police Department.
