2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

Date: Thursday, May 31st

Time: 9:00 am (bike ride), 9:35 am (run & walk)

Torch Run Participant lunch: 11:15 am (approx.)


Remember you can run, ride or walk as far as your little heart desires! No distance is to short, or run to slow! We have something for everyone!

This is open to every employee in the police department, you can even invite your family or friends too! TCPAAA you’re invited too!

There are THREE opportunities to participate: BIKE, RUN, OR WALK!


The three segments and their courses are:

BIKE- The bike segment is 13 miles long and begins at 9:00 am. The ride starts at the Larkridge Shopping Center, (south parking lot of Costco – take 162nd west from Washington St. – go through the roundabout and enter the Costco parking lot.) Bikes can be dropped off at 8:15 am  (there will be someone there to watch them). Then take your cars to the PD. A shuttle will be leaving the PD at 8:40 am to bring you back to your bikes at Costco for the start of the ride. The ride will start from the Costco parking lot and proceed east on 162nd Avenue to Washington Street. South on Washington St. to 144th Avenue. East on 144th Avenue to Colorado Blvd. South on Colorado Blvd. to Fire Station 5. (Group Photo taken). The Torch is then passed on to the runners & walkers. The bikes continue south on Colorado Blvd. to E. 100th Avenue. West on 100th Avenue to Grant St.. South on Grant St. to Thornton Parkway to Justice Center. (the SRO’s might lead you on a more scenic route through the bike paths of Thornton – ask them to!)


WALK – The walk starts at Fire Station 5 at 9:35 am (approx.) and is 2.2 miles long (you can walk more if you desire).  From Fire Station 5 we will be walking south on Colorado Blvd. to 120th Avenue (Mission Trace Shopping Center- Bradley parking lot). From the fire station to 136th Ave. we will be walking with the bikers and runners. At 136th Ave. the walkers will get on the sidewalk, as the bikers and runners take off. Walkers there will be a support van available for hydration, pick up, and transportation back to the fire station. Carpooling is highly encouraged.


RUN – The run starts at 9:35 am at Fire Station 5. The course we will be running is approximately 7.5 miles long. (you don’t  have to run that far – run a segment then hop in the van). Runners will be walking with the bikers and walkers from the fire station to 136thAve. From 136th Ave. the runners will be running in the right thru lane of southbound Colorado Blvd. to E. 100TH Ave. West on 100thAve. to Grant St. and south on Grant St. to Thornton Parkway to Civic Center Drive, finishing at the statue in front of the PD.  Runners will have a support van for hydration, rest, and transportation. There will be a shuttle van leaving the PD at 9:15 am to transport runners to Fire Station 5.

Registrations are due by May 18th, if you plan on participating get me your t-shirt sizes ASAP!
